35 Years of Innovation from Dresden

From Start-Up to Global Automation Partner: XENON Automatisierungstechnik GmbH Celebrates 35 Years of Innovation

What began in 1990 in a basement office in Dresden has evolved into a globally active high-tech company for automation systems. With a festive anniversary celebration, XENON Automatisierungstechnik GmbH marks its 35th year in business – and reflects on a success story closely tied to the economic transformation of Eastern Germany.

A Bold New Beginning – with a Clear Vision
On June 1, 1990, engineers Dr. Eberhard Reißmann and Dr. Hartmut Freitag took the leap into a free market economy – with nothing but an idea, technical expertise, and a small team from the former Rationalization Tools Department of VEB Robotron-Messelektronik.

„We had nothing but our knowledge, our determination – and the vision to create something of our own.“
Dr. Eberhard Reißmann, Founder and former Managing Director

In the very first year, XENON secured initial customer orders, primarily from Western Germany – a strong indication that its practical solutions could win over established markets from the outset.

From Local Pioneer to International Partner

Over the past three and a half decades, XENON has undergone continuous transformation: from a specialized machine builder in Dresden to a globally operating system and integration partner for complex assembly and testing automation. By establishing production sites in China and Mexico, XENON responded early to the demands of global supply chains – particularly from renowned customers in the automotive and electronics industries. Strong ties to Saxony’s automotive and supplier sectors gave XENON early access to challenging projects and helped drive the development of pioneering technologies at its headquarters. The company has also evolved structurally: today, with more than 450 employees, an expanded leadership team, and networked development and service units, XENON is strengthening its agility and customer proximity.

„35 years – that’s more than just a number. It shows that our founding idea still holds: technology, responsibility, and strong relationships.“ – Dr. Hartmut Freitag, Co-Founder and former Managing Director

XENON’s core mission – to deliver consistently innovative, customized assembly and testing solutions – remains unchanged. Key areas of focus today include applications in electromobility, sensor technology, medical devices, and increasingly, energy technologies – such as the automation of fuel cell and electrolyzer production lines. “We combine 35 years of experience with the inventive spirit of young engineers,” says Tobias Reißmann, Chief International Officer. “Our standard remains: intelligent technology that makes a difference.” Numerous patents demonstrate the company’s innovative strength and technical expertise. XENON also maintains close partnerships with universities and research institutions in Dresden – essential for innovation and talent development.

Partnership, Stability, and New Markets
Growth through internal strength – this principle has defined XENON from the beginning. André Koberg, Chief Finance & Operating Officer, emphasizes that XENON has grown steadily over the past 35 years – “but always organically, from within.” This solid development creates room for investment, strengthens employee loyalty, and ensures long-term reliability – in projects, partnerships, and across the organization.

At the same time, the demands on automation solutions continue to rise. Technological complexity, volatile markets, and ambitious sustainability goals are presenting customers with new challenges. “Today, our customers are looking for more than just technology – they seek guidance and partnership in a rapidly evolving market,” explains Kay Truxa, Chief Sales & Engineering Officer.

XENON is meeting this transformation with tailored, scalable solutions – particularly in the fields of electromobility, medical technology, and energy. The focus lies on energy-efficient, data-integrated, and adaptable production systems that deliver future-proof responses to an increasingly dynamic global market.
